Central High School

Bridgeport, Connecticut

A site dominated by the automobile, Aris Land Studio was retained by the City of Bridgeport to transform the campus into a pedestrian friendly facility. The designs reduce the scale of the campus entrance adding a stone entry wall to reflect the character of the site. Constructed wetlands capture significant stormwater volumes, aiding the City in the challenge of separating rainfall from their combined sewer system, while providing an opportunity for outdoor environmental education. Spaces for the students include outdoor amphitheater spaces for informal or organized classroom activities. The project exemplifies the success of implementing green infrastructure to treat stormwater.
